Gwangju Shinsegae Eye Clinic, Honam's First 30,000 SMILE Surgeries 'Record'
Delivery of Certificate Certified by Germany's Carl Zeiss Corporation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Shinsegae Eye Clinic (Chief Director Kim Jae-bong) announced on the 5th that it has recorded 30,000 cases of SMILE surgery, the first in the Honam region.
According to Carl Zeiss, the German company that developed SMILE surgery, Shinsegae Eye Clinic has recorded a total of 30,000 surgeries since introducing SMILE surgery in 2013. As a result, Shinsegae Eye Clinic has been officially recognized as the ophthalmology clinic with the overwhelmingly highest number of SMILE surgeries in the Honam region.
SMILE surgery significantly reduces the corneal incision compared to LASIK surgery, resulting in less dry eye syndrome, and it does not create a corneal flap, making it more resistant to external shocks. In particular, it causes less corneal damage and almost no postoperative pain, making it one of the most sought-after vision correction surgeries.
Moreover, last November, Shinsegae Eye Clinic received a ‘LEADING SMILE CENTER’ plaque from Carl Zeiss, the first in Korea, and also received the ‘Best Skilled Surgeon in SMILE’ award.
Additionally, it has officially been certified by Carl Zeiss for performing more than 1,000 cases of the multifocal intraocular lens ‘Lisa tri’ surgery, the highest number in the Honam region.
The Lisa tri lens, a presbyopia surgery lens that simultaneously corrects cataracts and presbyopia, replaces the aged natural lens with a multifocal intraocular lens that corrects distance, intermediate, and near vision all at once.
Kim Jae-bong, Chief Director of Gwangju Shinsegae Eye Clinic, said, “Since SMILE surgery requires surgery through a very small incision, it is best to be operated on by an experienced ophthalmology specialist. As the nation’s top representative clinic for SMILE surgery, we take pride in this and will continuously strive for even more perfect surgeries.”
