World's Largest Electronics Expo CES D-3, Samsung and LG Unveil Cutting-Edge TVs
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are drawing attention as they are expected to showcase the latest TVs equipped with cutting-edge technology at CES 2020, the world's largest electronics show opening on the 7th in Las Vegas, USA.
According to industry sources on the 4th, Samsung Electronics is set to unveil the world's first bezel-less TV at this CES. Some overseas IT media outlets in Germany and the United States have even released leaked photos of Samsung's bezel-less TV.
Samsung is also expected to reveal a large TV applying Micro LED, a futuristic display technology that attracted attention last year, again this year.
Samsung's new TV products will incorporate advanced digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). It is anticipated that this will offer consumers a new experience.
Kim Hyun-seok, President of Samsung Electronics' Consumer Electronics Division, who will deliver the keynote speech at this CES event, predicted in a homepage article the day before that a new "era of experience" will open over the next ten years.
President Kim stated, "Standing at the starting point of a new decade, the future Samsung envisions is an era of experience," emphasizing, "In the era of experience, personalized technology that meets individual needs will take center stage."
He added, "When the era of experience fully arrives, we will be connected to advanced technology in an optimized form for each individual," and "Instead of users learning how to use more complex and diverse functions, devices will operate autonomously for the users."
LG Electronics also announced that it will introduce new 8K TVs equipped with the latest AI processors at CES 2020. LG Electronics plans to expand its 8K TV lineup this year. The LG Signature OLED 8K will add a 77-inch model to the existing 88-inch, and the LG NanoCell 8K will introduce a new 65-inch model alongside the existing 75-inch.
8K TVs have a pixel count of 8,000 (k) horizontally, with a total pixel count of over 33.17 million (7680×4320).
LG Electronics also explained that it has enhanced natural language voice recognition capabilities based on 'LG ThinQ.' The voice recognition feature of LG ThinQ supports 20 languages and is available in 144 countries.
Additionally, LG integrated global AI assistants Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa into its proprietary webOS platform and linked Apple's AirPlay 2 and HomeKit services.
