Yeosu City Announces 71 Changes in 6 Areas of New Year Policies and Systems
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do, introduced new policies for the new year, including opening the province's first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle charging station around March at the SPG Yeosu Factory in Jungheung-dong.
According to Yeosu City on the 2nd, a total of 71 items across six fields of policies, systems, and key projects from 2020 will be changed or newly implemented this year.
Looking at the projects promoted by the city by sector, they are subdivided into ▲Jobs & Economy ▲Tourism, Culture & Education ▲Welfare, Health & Women ▲Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries ▲Transportation, Construction & Environment.
First, in the Jobs & Economy sector, to create local jobs and strengthen citizens' capabilities, the Youth Hope School will be operated, and financial support for small business owners will be increased from the existing 450 million KRW to 900 million KRW.
In the Tourism, Culture & Education sector, to promote sustainable tourism, the Yeosu Tourism Monitoring Team will be operated, and the Namdo Food Culture Festival will be held for three years.
The support for new students' school uniform costs will be expanded to include high school students, and the Hope Voucher project for multicultural families and North Korean defectors will also be carried out.
In the Welfare, Health & Women sector, the most notable project is the 'Youth Savings Account' support program, which provides an incentive of 300,000 KRW when low-income employed youth save 100,000 KRW per month.
The Yeosu Childcare Comprehensive Support Center in Ungcheon District will fully operate the Childcare Information Sharing Center and Toy Rental Room from February, and physical therapy rooms will be established at the Chodo Health Center in Samsan-myeon and the Yeondo Health Center in Nam-myeon.
The emergency small-scale function reinforcement project budget for senior centers will also increase from 1 million KRW to 2 million KRW, and infertility treatment costs for couples have been raised up to 1.1 million KRW.
In the Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries sector, a new public interest subsidy of 600,000 KRW per year has been established for registered farmers and fishery workers residing in Yeosu for more than one year. Additionally, an agricultural product processing support center for joint use by farmers will be built in Boksan-ri, Sora-myeon, and an eco-friendly seafood dryer support project will be introduced for the first time.
In the Transportation, Construction & Environment sector, rental taxis for transportation-vulnerable groups will be newly operated, and public Wi-Fi will be installed at 345 city bus stops to enhance convenience for citizens and tourists.
Furthermore, the second Ai Narae Playground will be created in Yeomun Park, and to reduce fine dust, 75 hydrogen vehicles and 300 electric vehicles will be distributed and supported.
In the General Administration & Taxation sector, the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo Boom-up Week will be designated and operated to attract nationwide attention, and active promotion activities will be carried out together with the COP28 Southern Central Region Hosting Citizens' Social Promotion Committee.
For the first time, a citizen safety insurance guaranteeing up to 10 million KRW in case of natural disasters will be promoted, and the Ungcheon National Sports Center project will also be in full swing.

A city official said, "We will do our best to manage and supervise so that the projects planned for this year proceed without any setbacks," and added, "We plan to continue publicity to prevent confusion caused by changing systems and policies."
