French Official: "Carlos Ghosn Will Not Be Extradited to Japan If He Comes to France"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] According to French FBM broadcasting on the 2nd (local time), a senior French official stated that Carlos Ghosn, the former chairman of the Renault-Nissan Alliance who escaped from Japan and fled to Lebanon, will not be extradited to Japan even if he enters France.
Agnes Pannier-Runacher, Secretary of State (Deputy Minister level) at the French Ministry of Economy and Finance, appeared on FBM broadcast that day and said, "If former Chairman Ghosn comes to France, he will not be sent back (to Japan)," adding, "France does not extradite its citizens, and this applies to all other French nationals as well."
Regarding Japan's house arrest of former Chairman Ghosn, she pointed out, "Ghosn, who was under house arrest, was not even allowed to meet with acquaintances."
However, she commented on Ghosn's escape, saying, "I have nothing to say about his escape," and criticized, "No one is above the law."
