Hwang Kyo-ahn's 'Precious Person' Former General Park Chan-joo Declares Candidacy for Cheonan
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Former Army General Park Chan-joo, affiliated with the Liberty Korea Party, announced his candidacy for the National Assembly election in Cheonan, Chungnam. He was once considered the first talent recruit for the Liberty Korea Party but withdrew amid the so-called 'Gonggwanbyeong Gapjil' controversy.
According to Yonhap News on the 2nd, Park held a press conference at the Cheonan City Hall briefing room and stated, "I will restore the collapsed national security." Since Shin Jin-young, the party committee chairman, has already declared his candidacy in this district, a primary election seems inevitable.
Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Liberty Korea Party, described Park as "a truly precious person." When the party approved Park's admission on December 11 last year, it stated, "There is no clear reason to refuse admission based on the Political Parties Act, party constitution, and regulations."
Park said, "I also have a sense of mission to correct the flawed economic policies of the Moon Jae-in administration and revive the South Korean economy," adding, "I will make Cheonan the center of South Korea."
Regarding the fine imposed by the Supreme Court for violating the 'Kim Young-ran Act,' he said, "I am not ashamed as it was a request for a subordinate's position out of filial piety (효, Hyo)." He added, "There was no exchange of money or any compensation, and I was simply responding to a subordinate's desperate hardship. I believe the punishment did not consider the military's characteristics."
