A Magnitude 5.8 Earthquake Occurs in Northeastern Iran
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] On the morning of the 2nd (local time), a magnitude 5.8 earthquake occurred in northeastern Iran, according to Russian Sputnik News Agency.
According to the report, the epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred around 7:59 AM in the Sanggan area of Razavi Khorasan Province in northeastern Iran, was relatively shallow at a depth of about 10 km. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported the magnitude of this earthquake as 5.2.
The Sanggan area is adjacent to the Afghanistan border and has a population of about 10,000. The nearest densely populated area to this location is Taybad, about 79 km away, with a population of approximately 40,000.
