Shinhan Financial Hope Foundation Receives Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award for 'Local Government Regeneration Support'
[Asia Economy Reporter Haeyoung Kwon] Shinhan Financial Hope Foundation received the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award on the 2nd in recognition of the achievements of the 'Local Government Urban Regeneration Support and Region-Specific Job Creation Project' promoted through the 'Hope Society Project.'
Shinhan Financial Group is implementing the Hope Society Project, a new social contribution program involving all group companies including Shinhan Bank, Shinhan Card, and Shinhan Financial Investment. Through this, a total of 270 billion KRW worth of social contribution projects are being promoted over three years until 2020 to support income activities for low-income groups, promote the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, and develop local communities. To pursue sincere social contribution activities through its core financial business and create a hopeful society where everyone prospers, the foundation changed its name from the existing Shinhan Hope Foundation to 'Shinhan Financial Hope Foundation' last December.
Shinhan Financial Hope Foundation supports the creation of region-specific jobs through social economy development targeting vulnerable areas and marginalized groups via the 'Local Government Urban Regeneration Support and Region-Specific Job Creation Project.' This project provides region-specific urban regeneration and job creation solutions by introducing business models tailored to each area's characteristics and continuous coaching from experts.
To this end, among the 30 areas selected as Saetteul Village project regions supported by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, three additional areas requiring further support were selected: Saebat Village in Hakjang-dong, Sasang-gu, Busan; Chimsan Village in Jochiwon, Sejong; and Cheongsugol in Suncheon. For each region, a total of 4.5 billion KRW (up to 1.5 billion KRW per region) is being supported over three years to build customized local economic infrastructure projects. Additionally, the foundation is actively addressing economic, social, and environmental issues in vulnerable areas by promoting the 'Local Community Problem Solving Contest,' which supports members and experts working together to solve various regional social problems such as low birth rates and aging populations.
