SK Group Breaks New Year Party Format Again This Year... Spotlighting Stakeholders as Main Characters
Chairman Chey Tae-won Skips New Year's Address, Listens to Stakeholders with CEOs
New Employees Wrap Up by Summarizing 'Happy Management' Discussion
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] SK Group broke the traditional format of the New Year's gathering. Last year, the event was held as a CEO dialogue in the form of 'interactive communication,' but this time, they went a step further by making stakeholders the main protagonists of the New Year's event.
On the 2nd, SK Group held a 'New Year's gathering' at the Grand Walkerhill Hotel in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, hosting a groundbreaking event that listened to the voices of various stakeholders, including ordinary citizens, customers, and members.
About 600 people attended, including Chairman Chey Tae-won, SK Senior Vice Chairman Chey Jae-won, SK Discovery Vice Chairman Chey Chang-won, Cho Dae-sik, Chairman of the SUPEX Council and heads of seven committees, and CEOs of major affiliates.
SK explained, "The introduction of this unconventional New Year's gathering reflects Chairman Chey Tae-won's determination to create and achieve happiness and deep change together with customers and society, which SK aims for."
Accordingly, this year's New Year's event was organized without a separate New Year's address from the chairman, featuring interviews with various stakeholders, on-site speeches by specially invited stakeholder representatives, and dialogues among members including new employees.
Speakers at the event included Heo Jae-hyung, CEO of 'Root Impact,' a social venture support organization; Professor Ahn Jung-ho of Seoul National University's Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology (and outside director of SK Telecom); and Jo Kwon-neung, a community activist from Gunsan, Jeonbuk.
CEO Heo expressed the hope that "SK would nurture leaders pursuing social value in various fields and expand communities where they can collaborate."
Professor Ahn urged, "Please enhance synergy among SK affiliates by utilizing 'data technology,' a core technology in the era of artificial intelligence and big data," while Mr. Jo asked for continued interest in revitalizing the local economy.
Earlier, there was a video presentation introducing the wishes for SK from restaurant workers near the SK Seorin Building, institutional investors, young job seekers, children of SK employees, and working mothers. Chairman Chey and other key executives listened attentively to the opinions and suggestions of these stakeholders.
A dialogue among SK members under the theme of '2020 Happiness Management' was also held.
In this dialogue, which included foreign nationals, women, new employees, and executives as panelists, participants exchanged views such as "For happiness not to end as a slogan, small but concrete actions by everyone are necessary," and "True happiness is sharing happiness beyond SK with society and stakeholders."
Last year, SK held the New Year's gathering by having CEOs of major affiliates discuss the theme of 'happiness,' followed by Chairman Chey summarizing the discussion. This year, a new employee who participated in the dialogue program summarized the discussion on behalf of the chairman and concluded the event by expressing their determination for 2020.
