2020 is the Year of Leap to 'Ilryu Shinhan'... "Let's Renew Everything in the Organization"
[Asia Economy Reporter Haeyoung Kwon] Cho Yong-byeong, Chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, emphasized that "2020 is the inaugural year for Shinhan to leap forward as a world-recognized financial group, 'First-Class Shinhan,' in Shinhan's unique way."
In his New Year's address on the 2nd, Chairman Cho stated, "This year is the year to complete the '2020 Smart Project' that we have been pursuing for the past three years and the inaugural year for leaping to First-Class Shinhan," adding, "We must leap to First-Class Shinhan through the three financial principles of trust, openness, and innovation."
He said, "The trust of customers and society is not a result that accumulates automatically at any moment, but the crystallization of sweat poured out from fiercely contemplating what is truly for the customers and providing exceptional value," and urged, "Let us practice 'Customer First' this year by achieving zero voice phishing, implementing a customer-centered new evaluation system, and strengthening customer investment asset monitoring to build first-class trust."
He also emphasized openness in response to the acceleration of financial and IT convergence. Chairman Cho said, "To become a subject that leads change rather than being led by change in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, we must transcend the boundaries of finance," and urged, "Let us step out of our internal perspective and collaborate with various domestic and international companies such as fintech and big tech, and attempt the fusion of knowledge beyond industries through broad industry-academic and public-private cooperation."
As specific methodologies for expanding openness, he presented openness in digital strategy, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and talent acquisition, as well as innovative finance supporting innovative ventures and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In particular, he expressed his ambition to support innovative ventures and SMEs and contribute to national economic growth by promoting the 'Triple-K Project' for the second innovative finance big bang and leading the 'K-Unicorn' project, a nationwide plan to nurture promising ventures.
He stated, "When the dream of entrepreneurship and innovation blooms on the solid foundation called Shinhan and everything in the organization is renewed, Shinhan will become a 'first-class' global financial institution."
