Aekyung Industrial has initiated a voluntary recall of six types of Chinese-made toothpaste after a preservative ingredient, which is banned for use in oral care products, was detected. The company, prioritizing customer safety, immediately halted the import and distribution of the affected products and decided to recall all items regardless of their manufacturing date.

According to Aekyung Industrial on January 7, the recall targets products manufactured by Domy in China and imported and sold by Aekyung Industrial, specifically: 2080 Basic Toothpaste, 2080 Daily Care Toothpaste, 2080 Smart Care Plus Toothpaste, 2080 Classic Care Toothpaste, 2080 Triple Effect Alpha Fresh Toothpaste, and 2080 Triple Effect Alpha Strong Toothpaste-a total of six types.

Aekyung Industrial stated that during its internal quality inspection in December last year, it discovered that trace amounts of triclosan, a preservative, had been mixed into some of the products. Triclosan is prohibited for use in toothpaste and other oral care products in Korea.

Upon confirming the facts, the company immediately suspended the import and distribution of the affected products and reported its voluntary recall plan to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Aekyung Industrial explained, "Prioritizing customer safety, we have decided to recall all six types of products in their entirety, regardless of manufacturing date."

Aekyung Industrial emphasized that, apart from the products subject to this recall, all other toothpaste products it sells are produced domestically and have no issues with quality or ingredients.

Consumers who possess the affected products can apply for a recall regardless of manufacturing date, place of purchase, date of purchase, whether the product has been used, or whether they have a receipt. From January 5, applications can be submitted via the dedicated Aekyung Industrial toothpaste recall customer center (080-051-1577) or the company website, and a full refund of the purchase amount will be provided.

Through its official statement, Aekyung Industrial said, "We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and concern caused by this incident," adding, "All of our employees are making every effort to resolve the issue." The company further stated, "We will use this incident as an opportunity to thoroughly inspect quality control and the entire production process to prevent similar cases from recurring."
