Coupang Announces 1.6 Trillion KRW Customer Compensation Plan, 50,000 KRW Per Person

On December 29, Coupang announced a customer compensation plan totaling 1.685 trillion KRW in response to the recent personal information leakage incident.


Coupang plans to distribute purchase vouchers to customers starting from January 15. The recipients are customers from 33.7 million accounts who received a personal information leakage notification last month, with each individual receiving vouchers worth 50,000 KRW. Both Wow members and general members will receive the same compensation. Withdrawn customers who received the notification are also included. Coupang will sequentially notify these 33.7 million account holders via text message regarding how to use their purchase vouchers.

Harold Rogers, Interim Representative Director of Coupang Korea, stated, “All Coupang employees deeply reflect on how much concern and distress this recent personal information leakage incident has caused our customers,” adding, “We have prepared this compensation plan as a responsible measure for our customers.”

Coupang will provide each affected customer with four types of purchase vouchers, each usable once: 5,000 KRW for all products on Coupang including Rocket Delivery, Rocket Direct, Seller Rocket, and Marketplace Coupang; 5,000 KRW for Coupang Eats; 20,000 KRW for Coupang Travel products; and 20,000 KRW for Alux products. The total value per customer is 50,000 KRW.

Eligible customers will be able to check their vouchers sequentially through the Coupang application starting January 15. The vouchers can be applied when making purchases. Further details will be announced separately.
