Apple Unveils Thinnest-Ever 'iPhone Air'... "A Design From the Future"

Apple unveiled its thinnest iPhone ever, the 'iPhone Air,' on September 10 (KST).

On this day, Apple also revealed the new iPhone 17 series, iPhone Air, the latest Apple Watch, and AirPods Pro 3. The iPhone Air, featuring the thinnest and lightest design among all iPhones, comes in at 5.6mm thick and 165g. For comparison, Samsung Electronics' slim competitor, the Galaxy S25 Edge, is 5.8mm thick and 163g, making the iPhone Air thinner but 2g heavier.

Apple stated, "We wanted to create an iPhone that feels like it came from the future," adding, "Our goal was to make it so powerful, thin, and light that you barely feel it in your hand."

High-End Gaming and AI Possible with the A19 Pro Chip

To achieve both thinness and durability, Apple used Grade 5 titanium, and wrapped the frame front and back with a ceramic shield to prevent scratches and cracks. They also secured space for a high-capacity, high-density battery that enables up to 27 hours of video playback, and equipped the device with the A19 Pro chip to deliver professional-level performance.

According to Apple, the newly introduced A19 Pro chip features the fastest central processing unit (CPU) among smartphones and the most advanced graphics processing unit (GPU) ever. Compared to the iPhone 14 Pro, the CPU is up to 40% faster and the GPU up to 70% faster. As a result, high-end games, Apple Intelligence, photo editing, and other advanced features run smoothly.

Enhanced Durability and Improved Camera Convenience

The iPhone Air has a single rear camera lens, but Apple claims it functions as if it combines multiple high-end cameras into one. It can shoot in ultra-high resolution at 48MP for detailed images, or at the default setting of 24MP (24 million pixels), and also offers a built-in 2x telephoto lens.

The front camera, mainly used for selfies and videos, is also expected to be more convenient. The newly added 'Center Stage' feature automatically widens the field of view, allowing users to take landscape selfies even when holding the iPhone vertically. When more people join the photo, the field of view automatically expands, making group shots easier.

When shooting selfie videos, the device reduces shake and recognizes the user's face for stable recording. The new 'Dual Capture Video' feature allows simultaneous recording with both the front and rear cameras.

The iPhone Air starts at 1,590,000 KRW for the 256GB model, with pre-orders beginning at 9 p.m. on September 12. The official release date is September 19.
