From 2020 until last year,
the resident registration population declined for five consecutive years,
continuing the trend of population decrease.
The number of single-person households exceeded 10 million for the first time this year,
indicating the spread of the 'one-person generation.'
On August 27, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced
the publication of the '2025 Statistical Yearbook of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.'
The yearbook contains statistics as of December 31 of last year,
covering 327 statistics across eight fields:

Resident registration population decreased to 51,217,221 last year
Last year, the resident registration population
was 51,217,221,
a decrease of 108,108 people
compared to 51,325,329 in 2023.
The resident registration population has been declining for five consecutive years,
falling from 51,829,023 in 2020.
However, the annual rate of decrease
peaked in 2022 and has since slowed,
indicating that the trend of population decline has somewhat eased.
Single-person households account for 42% of all households
The total number of households reached 24,118,928,
an increase of about 1 million households compared to 2020.
After surpassing 9 million in 2020,
the number of single-person households exceeded 10 million within four years.
Last year, there were 10,122,587 single-person households,
accounting for 42% of all households.
Two-person households also increased from 5.4 million in 2020
to 6.01 million last year.
In contrast, households with four or more members
decreased from 4.61 million
to 3.94 million during the same period.
The average age for women was 46.8 years,
higher than 44.5 years for men.
Both averages increased compared to last year's 43.7 years for men
and 45.9 years for women.
Digital transformation accelerates... Sharp rise in online civil service usage
With the acceleration of digital transformation,
the usage rate of online civil services
rose from 59.4% in 2020
to 83.7% last year.
The number of electronic certificate issuances
jumped from about 480,000 in 2020
to about 18.63 million in 2023,
and about 26.2 million last year.
The number of reports filed through the Safety Report Portal
increased from about 1,889,000 in 2020
to about 12.43 million last year, a 6.6-fold increase.
Compared to about 7.53 million in 2023,
this is a 65.2% increase.
Due to abnormal climate... Number of heatwave days jumped from 10s to 30s
Due to abnormal climate conditions,
the number of heatwave days has been steadily increasing.
It was 7.7 days in 2020,
in the 10s during 2022 and 2023,
and increased to 30.1 days last year.
