Yogiyo Analyzes Three Years of Summer Data... Delivery Trends Show Polar Opposites
During the sweltering heat that dampens appetites, delivery app users are making choices that are at opposite extremes.
Searches for Stimulating Dopamine Foods Like 'Spicy' and 'Jjamppong' Increase by 29%
On August 20, Yogiyo announced that an analysis of its app search data for the summer seasons (June to July) over the past three years (2023-2025) revealed that consumers are simultaneously seeking out both stimulating foods and healthy options.
According to the comparative search data, searches related to 'dopamine foods'-which provide instant gratification with spicy and stimulating flavors such as 'spicy' and 'jjamppong'-increased by more than 29% this year compared to 2023. 'Mala,' which emerged as a sensational dopamine food, also saw its search share rise by over 11% from the previous year, continuing its upward trend. This indicates a steady trend of people trying to beat the heat and relieve stress with spicy foods.
Healthy Pleasure Keywords Like Low-Sugar and Keto Also See Double-Digit Growth
On the other hand, the 'Healthy Pleasure' trend, which emphasizes health, was also pronounced. Searches for 'low-sugar' surged by more than 230% compared to the previous year, while keywords such as 'keto' (14%) and 'fruit' (17%) also recorded double-digit increases. Yogiyo analyzed that this reflects concerns that consuming only stimulating foods in the heat could be detrimental to health.
The Yogiyo data team explained, "Consumers looking to restore their appetite and energy in the heat are alternating between stimulating menus and healthy diets," adding, "'Dopamine foods' that revitalize daily life and 'Healthy Pleasure' that balances taste and health will be the two main pillars of summer dining consumption."
