Jennie, a member of the group BLACKPINK, drew attention by appearing at Incheon International Airport wearing uniquely designed shoes with each of the five toes separated. Commonly referred to as "toe shoes," these were originally developed as functional athletic footwear, but have recently emerged as a fashion item.
On July 11, Jennie departed for Los Angeles via Incheon International Airport, catching eyes with her outfit: a red bra top, a crochet knit vest in a blend of white and sky blue, gray sweatpants, and the distinctive "toe shoes" that expose all five toes.
Resembling "athlete's foot socks," toe shoes were initially developed for use in running, fitness, and water sports.
However, interest in them as a fashion item has surged recently, as leading fashionistas in the entertainment industry, including Jennie, have worn them in succession.
The model Jennie wore is sold for around 140,000 won on the official website, but as of July 15, all sizes are currently sold out on both the official site and major retailers.
Previously, singer Lee Hyori and actress Shin Mina also attracted attention by sharing photos of themselves wearing these shoes. Lee Hyori posted a photo of her shoes during a hike on social media with the caption "ㅋㅋㅋ," eliciting laughter, while Shin Mina posted a photo of herself wearing them during a trip to Prague, drawing fans' attention.
"Toe shoes" are said to help improve balance and strengthen the muscles in the soles of the feet by encouraging more active use of the small muscles and joints in the foot.
They are popular among activity enthusiasts because they can be worn not only for walking or running, but also for indoor exercise, and they offer protective features as well.
However, because the soles are thin and provide less shock absorption, those with foot conditions such as plantar fasciitis or flat feet are advised not to wear them.
