Thanks to the 'Cyber Oh Eunyoung Teacher', Parenting Becomes Easier

ChatGPT Parenting Methods Spreading Among Mothers

Recently, ChatGPT has not only been providing parenting information but is also partially taking over childcare and education tasks.

Yonhap News reported on the 13th about a case where parenting concerns were resolved using ChatGPT. Moon Yena (33), who lives in Incheon, shared with ChatGPT her concerns about her 28-month-old first child hitting their younger sibling over a toy.

In response, ChatGPT explained, "Wanting to monopolize toys stems from anxiety and possessiveness," and suggested, "Instead of forcibly taking the toy away, let your child experience that good things happen when they share toys." She told Yonhap News, "ChatGPT is like my 'cyber Oh Eunyoung.'"

The first stage of 'ChatGPT parenting' is obtaining parenting information, as Moon did. Online, there are many examples of the second stage of ChatGPT parenting, where parents use ChatGPT's voice function to read books to their children or help them study.

The second stage of ChatGPT parenting involves using ChatGPT's voice function to read books to children or help them study. In a recent video posted by a parenting YouTuber titled "A Smart New Parenting Method," a father is seen eating ramen while letting his daughter, who insists on having numbers counted from one, interact with ChatGPT.

Even after repeated requests to "count from one again," ChatGPT responds tirelessly, "Of course. Let's start," and continues counting. A comment on the video read, "The era of co-parenting with AI has arrived."

On internet mom cafes, cases have been shared such as, "I took pictures of each page of an English storybook and had ChatGPT read them to my child," "My child plays quiz games with ChatGPT," and "I had ChatGPT read my child's Saju."

Regarding these trends, Kim Myungjoo, a professor at Seoul Women's University School of Information Security, told Yonhap News, "Various customized chatbots that combine with personal interests, including parenting, will continue to emerge."

On the other hand, Ha Junghoon, author of the parenting bestseller "Ppippoppippo 119 Pediatrics" and director of Ha Junghoon Pediatrics, pointed out, "What ChatGPT does best is presenting incorrect information in a convincing way," and added, "In parenting, even if 99 out of 100 answers are correct, one mistake can have serious consequences. It's premature to rely on ChatGPT, which still lacks the ability to distinguish right from wrong information."

Meanwhile, GPT surpassed 500 million users worldwide just two years after its launch. This means one out of every fifteen people on Earth can now converse with AI. The number of users has increased by more than 30% in just three months, up from 350 million.
