The hanbok worn by actress Kim Taeri will be introduced in cities such as New York, USA, and Paris, France.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Craft & Design Foundation have been promoting hanbok since 2022 in collaboration with domestic Hallyu cultural and artistic figures. Previously, actress Suzy and former figure skater Kim Yuna participated in the project, helping to facilitate the overseas expansion of hanbok brands.
Kim, who has taken over the baton, collaborated with four hanbok brands (Leesle, Shinseoul, Ouur, Hyeon) to design and wear hanbok that combines traditional elegance with modern sensibility. The Ministry will unveil the results through a pictorial in the January issue of 'Marie Claire Korea' on the 21st. The project will also be produced as a video and broadcast on billboards in Times Square Broadway in New York, Citadium Caumartin in Paris, and the K-Culture Screen at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History.
There will also be an exhibition for visitors to experience in person. From January 15 to February 11 next year, 'Lines of Elegance, Patterns of Dignity' will be held on the second floor of Culture Station Seoul 284. Culture Station Seoul 284 is the location where Kim performed a street show in the drama 'Jeongnyeoni.'
Lee Jungwoo, Director General for Culture and Arts Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "Korean traditional culture, including hanbok, is expanding the scope of Hallyu alongside modern popular culture," adding, "We expect this project to play a significant role in promoting the unique elegance and beauty of hanbok to the world."
