Investigation Into Cause of Incident and Repairs to Proceed
The HMM-operated cargo vessel Namuho, which had been anchored in the Strait of Hormuz and experienced an explosion, arrived at Dubai Port in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at around midnight local time on May 8, 2026.
At approximately 12:20 a.m. local time (5:20 a.m. Korean time) on the same day, Namuho was towed by a tugboat to the vicinity of Drydocks World Dubai, the largest ship repair yard in the Middle East, located at Dubai Port.
A harbor pilot is scheduled to board soon to begin the docking process at the shipyard, and it is expected to take about three hours to complete the mooring. External personnel are expected to be allowed to board the vessel after 8:00 a.m. local time (1:00 p.m. Korean time) on May 8, 2026.
Meanwhile, the Namuho fire broke out on the afternoon of May 4, 2026, the very day the United States launched the “Liberation Project” to support the escape of ships stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that the fire aboard the Namuho was the result of an Iranian attack.
