"Just Out of Boredom"... Father and Son Smash Taxi Windows with Slingshot While Driving Truck
A man in his 60s and his son in his 20s have been apprehended by the police after indiscriminately shattering the windows of taxis in operation by shooting steel balls with a slingshot from inside a moving truck in broad daylight. During police questioning, they reportedly stated they did it "just out of boredom," sparking public outrage.
On May 17, the Cheongwon Police Station in Cheongju announced that they are investigating the father, Mr. A (in his 60s), and his son, Mr. B (in his 20s), without detention, on suspicion of aggravated property damage for firing steel balls at moving vehicles and causing damage.
According to the police, at around 11:50 a.m. on May 14, Mr. A targeted two taxis driving along a road in Yullyang-dong, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province. Seated in the passenger seat of a 1-ton truck being driven by his son, Mr. B, Mr. A opened the window and used a slingshot to fire steel balls, which shattered the taxis' windows.
At the time of the incident, a passenger was inside one of the damaged taxis, making it a potentially dangerous situation that could have led to serious injury or a secondary collision. Fortunately, the steel balls, which were fired at high speed, only hit the vehicle windows and bounced outside, so neither the passenger nor the driver was injured.
