Gimpo City Secures Disaster Response Golden Time with NFC-Based 'One-Touch Location Verification'
City Completes Installation of Basic Address Plates at Four Underpasses: Unyang, Unyang 2, Unyang 3, and Janggi
NFC Technology Applied... Instantly Check Location Information by Tapping with a Smartphone
Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province has completed the full installation of basic address plates at four underpasses within its jurisdiction and established a 'one-touch location verification' system utilizing NFC technology, thereby significantly strengthening its smart disaster response infrastructure.
This project was launched to resolve confusion over location due to similar or overlapping underpass names and to enable any citizen to communicate their precise location easily and accurately in an emergency. The targeted sites included a total of four underpasses: Unyang, Unyang 2, Unyang 3, and Janggi. The city has finished installing a total of 100 basic address plates.
Notably, the newly installed basic address plates are equipped with NFC (Near Field Communication) functionality, allowing citizens to instantly check their current location by simply tapping their smartphone on the plate, without the need to install a separate app. As a result, it is expected that, in emergency situations, callers will be able to deliver their location quickly and accurately, drastically improving initial response times.
During the project, Gimpo City collaborated with relevant agencies such as the fire department and police to review the appropriateness of underpass names in advance. The city also prioritized effectiveness by checking on-site visibility and installing the address plates in optimal locations that are easily recognizable for both drivers and pedestrians.
Basic address plates are address information facilities that assign location markers at regular intervals along road sections, serving as core infrastructure for rapid location guidance during disasters and emergencies. In particular, in underpass sections with similar structures, the accuracy of location identification is a critical factor that can determine the success of rescue operations.
Through this project, Gimpo City is being recognized for going beyond simple facility installation, taking a step closer to realizing a smart safety city by integrating digital-based location information services.
A Gimpo City official stated, "The installation of NFC-based basic address plates is a representative example of smart administrative services that citizens can tangibly experience," adding, "We will continue to expand address information facilities in disaster-prone areas and further enhance our safety infrastructure by incorporating digital technologies."
