Jin Air Introduces A320neo Simulator: "Training for Extreme Scenarios as in Real Life"
Approximately KRW 22 Billion Invested to Establish Training Foundation
Enhanced Practical Training with Smoke Generation System
Proactive Response to Integrated LCC Launch and Introduction of New Aircraft
Jin Air has launched a large-scale infrastructure investment to enhance the practical response capabilities of its flight crew, in line with the launch of an integrated low-cost carrier (LCC) and the introduction of Airbus aircraft.
On May 21, Jin Air announced that it had completed the introduction of the A320neo simulator (FFS) to strengthen operational safety following the adoption of Airbus aircraft.
The simulator is a training device that enables simulated flights in an environment identical to an aircraft cockpit. It can replicate emergencies such as takeoffs and landings in adverse weather conditions using precise motion and high-resolution 4K projectors. This equipment is equipped with a smoke generation system, allowing crews to train as if in real-life extreme scenarios where visibility within the aircraft is completely compromised. This measure is in response to increased awareness of unexpected incidents such as in-flight lithium battery overheating and smoke ingress caused by bird strikes.
Following the simulator, Jin Air also plans to introduce a Flight Training Device (FTD). Combined, the two devices represent an investment of approximately KRW 22 billion. Once the installations are complete, Jin Air will operate two FFS units and one FTD, establishing its own independent training system. This is expected to reduce outsourced training costs and improve the efficiency of workforce development at the same time.
Alongside the training infrastructure, Jin Air has also advanced its training standards. Since last year, it has implemented both Competency-Based Training Assessment (CBTA) and Evidence-Based Training (EBT). Jin Air, Air Busan, and Air Seoul have jointly developed pilot training programs in preparation for the integrated LCC launch. All training sessions are recorded and used as debriefing materials, and flight crew members must complete this intensive training every six months.
This build-up of training infrastructure is a proactive response to the introduction of Airbus aircraft scheduled for the second half of this year and the integrated LCC launch planned for the first quarter of next year. Jin Air also plans to provide a stable training environment for the flight crew of Air Busan and Air Seoul, which will soon become part of the same family.
