Mulvaney previously served as Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and as Acting Chief of Staff during the first Trump Administration, playing a key role in policy decisions.
He cited widespread fatigue over overseas interventions throughout American society and prolonged inflationary pressures as the background for these trends. Mulvaney emphasized, "U.S. government intervention in both strategic industries and the private sector is also gradually expanding," adding, "This trend represents a significant structural change that will influence U.S. economic, industrial, and trade policies for years to come, rather than a temporary shift."
At the luncheon, which was held under the theme "The Return of America First: Global Business and Geopolitics in the Trump 2.0 Era," a wide range of topics were discussed, including the policy direction of a potential second Trump Administration, shifts within the MAGA (Make America Great Again) camp, the future of U.S. trade and industrial policy, tariff policies and reshoring strategies, geopolitical risks surrounding the Middle East and North Korea, and the restructuring of global supply chain strategies with a focus on economic security.
More than 120 participants, including AMCHAM member companies as well as key figures from major domestic and international corporations, attended the one-on-one special dialogue between James Kim, AMCHAM Chairman and CEO, and former Acting Chief of Staff Mulvaney.
