HwaWoo to Hold Seminar on "Review of Practical Issues in Project REITs"
Comprehensive Review of Taxation and Relevant Laws
Law firm HwaWoo announced on May 21 that it will hold a seminar titled "Review of Practical Issues in Project REITs" at the HwaWoo Training Center on the 34th floor of ASEM Tower in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at 3:00 p.m. on May 28.
Project Real Estate Investment Companies (Project REITs) are a system specialized for real estate development projects. They were introduced under the amended Real Estate Investment Company Act in May 2025. In particular, as they align with the government's improvements to the real estate project finance (PF) system, Project REITs are expected to replace Project Finance Investment Companies (PFV) and serve as a key driving force in reshaping the future real estate development market.
Accordingly, HwaWoo will hold a seminar for asset management company professionals operating REITs, covering a comprehensive range of topics from general information about Project REITs to practical issues and tax matters.
The seminar will consist of a total of three sessions, followed by a Q&A segment. First, attorney Kang Beom-gu (40th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), a former head of the REITs Review Department at the Korea Real Estate Board, will present "Practical Checkpoints and Case Studies for Project REITs." Attorney Kang served as the head of the REITs Review Department at the Korea Real Estate Board, where he was involved in inspections of investment structures, feasibility reviews, reporting and disclosure, and internal controls of REITs, as well as participating in the institutionalization of Project REITs as a practitioner.
Next, accountant Kim Dae-ho, who has practical experience with REITs, funds, and PFV, will lead a session on "Taxation of Project REITs." He will address key tax issues, tax-saving strategies, and practical applications involved in the operation of Project REITs.
Finally, attorney Park Young-woo (32nd class), who has more than 20 years of practical experience with PFV, REITs, funds, and overseas development and is currently the head of the real estate finance team, will present "Checkpoints Regarding the Real Estate Development Project Management Act." He will examine the impact of the recently enacted Real Estate Development Project Management Act on the operation of Project REITs and discuss practical response strategies.
