"Don't Dump Noodle Soup While Hiking"... Retailers Distribute 'Magic Bomb' for Free
Innocean and CU Collaborate with Korea Forest Service on Campaign
Leftover Soup Solidified into Gel Form for Easy Disposal as Regular Trash
Recently, controversy has arisen as some hikers have been discarding leftover instant noodle soup directly onto the ground during mountain hikes in areas such as Gwanaksan. In response, the retail industry has launched campaigns to raise awareness and promote behavioral change.
On May 21, Innocean announced the launch of the "Zero Noodle Soup Campaign" to coincide with the International Day for Biological Diversity. The campaign aims to reduce environmental pollution caused during hiking by raising awareness about the issue of instant noodle soup waste and encouraging responsible behavior. Hikers are encouraged to use portable soup solidifiers, which allow them to leave no trace in nature after their hikes.
CU, a convenience store chain operated by BGF Retail, will collaborate with the Korea Forest Service to distribute a liquid absorbent called "Magic Bomb" free of charge, making it easier for hikers to dispose of leftover noodle soup. Magic Bomb is a portable soup solidifier that, when added to leftover soup, turns it into a gel-like solid that can be disposed of as regular trash.
To expand the campaign nationwide, Magic Bomb will first be distributed free of charge at CU stores located near ten popular hiking trails across the country: Gwanaksan, Bukhansan, and Dobongsan in Seoul; Naejangsan in Jeolla Province; Seoraksan in Gangwon Province; Woraksan in Chungcheong Province; and Geumjeongsan, Mireuksan, Palgongsan, and Sobaeksan in Gyeongsang Province. CU will also collaborate with the Black Yak Alpine Club (BAC), the country's largest outdoor community with 650,000 members, to further promote the campaign. Through an event in the BAC application, "Magic Bomb" will be provided free of charge to members who sign up to participate in the Zero Noodle Soup Campaign.
