Gyeongnam Incumbent Police Officer Involved in Rear-End Collision Suspended for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
An incumbent police officer who was caught driving while still under the influence of alcohol has been suspended from duty.
On May 20, Changwon Jungbu Police Station in Gyeongnam announced that a 60-something Inspector A, affiliated with a local police station in the province, has been booked without detention and suspended from duty.
According to the police, Inspector A was involved in a rear-end collision while driving on a road in Towa-dong, Seongsan-gu, Changwon, at around 8:34 a.m. on May 15.
The investigation found that Inspector A's vehicle, which had temporarily stopped due to rush-hour traffic congestion, was hit from behind by a car driven by a woman in her 30s, Ms. B.
As a result of the accident, Ms. B suffered fractures to her nasal bone and other injuries.
Police officers who responded to the scene discovered during the accident investigation that Inspector A had been driving under the influence of alcohol.
It was revealed that Inspector A had driven while not completely sober, and his blood alcohol concentration was at a level warranting license suspension.
Changwon Jungbu Police Station reported Inspector A's drunk driving to a higher authority on the day of the accident and took immediate action to suspend him from duty.
