"Connecting Beyond the Classroom"... Jeonnam Office of Education Opens the Door to Future Education with '2030 Classroom'
‘Student Initiative Growth Lesson Network’ Held
Provincial Research Schools and Questioning Schools Receive Positive Reviews for Their Achievements
A vivid case study of the Jeonnam ‘2030 Classroom,’ where students explore wetlands using artificial intelligence (AI), communicate with the world outside the classroom, and develop core competencies, has been unveiled.
The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on May 20 that it held the ‘1st Student Initiative Growth Lesson Network’ at the Jeonnam Office of Education Creative Convergence Education Center on May 19, seeking directions for student-initiated lessons centered around the ‘2030 Classroom’ with teachers from the field.

The most notable case was the ‘2030 Glocal Ramsar Classroom,’ which links AI technology with local ecology.
In this classroom, students use AI to create their own field guides to the wetland creatures of Gangjin Bay and explore migratory birds and seasonal landscapes they have photographed using virtual reality (VR). Furthermore, they are developing global awareness by participating in online joint classes with students in China on the topic of wetlands.
Cases of self-directed learning, in which students ask questions and find answers on their own, were also shared. Now in its second year, the Provincial Designated Lesson Research School and the Questioning School are driving student-centered lesson innovation based on project-based learning. The ‘2030 Lesson Exchange’ project, in which students from Jeonnam and Gyeongbuk meet online to jointly create digital village maps, has been positively received as a new instructional model that transcends physical distance and enables students to learn about each other’s cultures.
In particular, a lesson plan for the ‘2030 Little Jeong Yak-yong Classroom,’ which is set to debut on May 21, attracted notable attention. Over 210 years after Dasan Jeong Yak-yong wrote the ‘Gyeongse Yupyo,’ students from Gangjin and Gwangju are gathering online to create a ‘Children’s Gyeongse Yupyo’ that envisions the future of the proposed ‘Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City.’ This project is significant in that it expands the government-led discussion of regional integration into a student-led ‘our agenda’ from the students’ perspective.
During the subject-specific consultations that followed the case presentations, participating teachers shared voices from their school sites and focused on discussing operational challenges and practical support measures for education policy.
The provincial office of education plans to continue expanding the teacher network in connection with the student initiative growth lesson policy. From June to July, lesson transformation cases will be shared at the regional level through local education support offices, with the aim of spreading student-centered lesson change throughout the region.
