The Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) held a commemorative event for 'World Metrology Day' to highlight the social role of measurement standards and the importance of trust in policy.
On May 20, KRISS announced that it hosted the World Metrology Day celebration under the theme "Metrology: Building Trust in Policy Making" at its headquarters.
World Metrology Day was established to commemorate the Meter Convention, which was signed in Paris, France, on May 20, 1875. Every year, international organizations for measurement standards and national metrology institutes select a new theme and hold events to raise awareness of the importance of units and measurement.
In particular, World Metrology Day was designated as an official UNESCO International Day in 2023, earning recognition from the international community for metrology as a core foundation that contributes to human life and sustainable development.
Last year, KRISS attended the international ceremony celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Meter Convention in Paris and Versailles, France, where it shared the historical significance and future challenges of measurement standards with the global community.
At this year's event, commendations were presented by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, the Chairperson of the National Research Council of Science & Technology, and the President of KRISS to individuals who contributed to the advancement of measurement science and technology. Following this, Yongmin Cho, CEO of UnboundLabDev, delivered an invited lecture on the topic "Strategies for Achieving AI Project Outcomes through Redefining Data."
