Hancom Changes Name, Sets Sights on Global Expansion as an AI OS Company
Hancom, formerly known as Hancom Inc., is changing its corporate name to "Hancom" for the first time in 36 years since its founding, and is embarking on a global push as a "sovereign agentic operating system (OS) company." Hancom Office will also be transformed into an artificial intelligence (AI) platform.
At a strategy briefing held on May 19 at the Fairmont Hotel in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, Yeonsu Kim, CEO of Hancom, stated, "Today marks the declaration of Hancom's new identity. Hancom has already demonstrated tangible results in its AI business, and based on these achievements, we are now aiming for a higher vision with the 'sovereign agentic OS' initiative." She emphasized Hancom's ambition to evolve beyond an AI technology company into a global enterprise that guarantees data sovereignty and orchestrates the operation of AI assistants (agents).
The sovereign agentic OS controls an organization's internal data, external AI models, existing work systems, and authority structures within a unified environment. The primary target markets include public sector, defense, finance, and healthcare fields, where delegating data to external clouds is not an option. Hancom projects that by 2030, the global serviceable available market (SAM) for sovereign agentic OS solutions will reach approximately 7 to 10 billion dollars (equivalent to 10 trillion to 14 trillion won).
Hancom has achieved results in commercializing AI by increasing revenue per customer through AI packages, leveraging its existing base of 200,000 customers without incurring costs to acquire new ones. Last year, Hancom’s non-consolidated revenue was 175.3 billion won, a 10.2% increase compared to the previous year, with AI-related sales accounting for 54.6% of the total increase. In the first quarter of this year, the proportion of AI revenue in non-consolidated sales also rose from 0.04% in the same period last year to 11.21%. CEO Kim explained, "Since the beginning of this year, monthly AI sales have exceeded our initial business plan by an average of 200%."
Hancom plans to secure a leading position in the sovereign agentic OS market based on four key strengths: ▲ proprietary data technology accumulated over 36 years ▲ AI transformation (AX) data ▲ an asset base of 200,000 customers ▲ and an open AX standard architecture.
Hancom’s first target is the European market, where AI sovereignty requirements are being institutionalized through regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the AI Act. CEO Kim commented, "We are currently on the verge of signing memorandums of understanding with three local partners in Europe."

With the transition to a sovereign agentic OS company, Hancom Office will end the sale of its traditional annual subscription packages and be reborn as a platform where advanced AI features are applied in real-time. CEO Kim highlighted, "The name Hancom Inc. was a great starting point that established the standard for Korean document processing. However, Hancom's scope has expanded beyond documents to data, from computers to AI agents, and from Korea to the global stage. We will open a new chapter for Hancom as a sovereign agentic OS company for the next 36 years."
