Yeongdeungpo-gu Offers up to 10 Million Won for Restoration of Aging Fences and Retaining Walls
Removal of Floor Area Restrictions,
Expansion to Include Parks
On May 19, Yeongdeungpo-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Choi Hokwon) announced that it will expand its support program for the restoration of aging fences, retaining walls, and stone embankments to prevent safety accidents caused by natural disasters such as heavy rainfall.

The district will provide up to 10 million won, covering up to 70% of the total project cost required for maintenance.
This year, the application requirements have been eased. The previous restriction on total floor area—limited to less than 1,000㎥—has been removed to widen participation opportunities. In addition, the scope of support, which was previously focused on roadside areas, has now been expanded to parks, allowing for the improvement of potential hazards around pedestrian spaces used by many people.
To apply, residents can download the relevant documents from the “Notices & Announcements” section of the district office website and submit them in person to the Architecture Division at the district office. After reviewing the documents and conducting an on-site assessment by experts, the district will select the recipients. Applications are accepted throughout the year, but the program may close early if the budget is exhausted.
Yeongdeungpo-gu is also the first among Seoul's 25 districts to implement a “Support Project for the Maintenance of Walkways in Publicly Open Spaces on Private Land.” The support is available for walkways open to public passage, as required by regulations such as setback lines or open spaces within the lot, in buildings that have been approved for use for more than five years. The district will provide up to 7 million won in support. Applications for this project can be submitted in person to the Architecture Division at the district office until June 30.
