On that day, Park stated, "This local election must serve to completely end the insurrection triggered by the illegal martial law of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration and to restore democracy in the Republic of Korea."
He continued, "Never again should an anti-democratic regime arise that oppresses the people by force of arms and rules above the citizens. For the normalization of Korea, the Democratic Party must win and establish a local government that works competently."
He further stressed, "Only when the Democratic Party achieves a solid victory together with the people will those who sympathize with insurrectionary forces be unable to rise again. With the spirit of the May 18 Gwangju Democratic Movement, the April 19 Revolution, and the June 1987 Democratic Uprising, we will steadfastly defend democracy and the values of the Constitution."
