Byeongtaek Lim, the Democratic Party candidate for Mayor of Siheung, continues to engage with local residents in the field even after his unopposed victory was confirmed. Despite restrictions on official election campaigning, he is focusing on uniting the local election atmosphere by supporting other party candidates and listening to citizen concerns.
On May 16, Lim stated on his social media, "Since I am an unopposed candidate (designate), I can no longer hand out business cards or wear campaign clothing with my name on it. Nevertheless, I am doing my utmost to support my fellow Democratic Party candidates so that we can all win together."
On this day, Lim toured the Sincheon-dong and Eunhaeng-dong areas with city council candidate Sanghoon Lee, meeting with local residents. After greeting representatives from 'Dusonmoa', an organization supporting underprivileged children, he listened to residents' feedback about inconveniences and local issues.
At a small park in Sincheon-dong, he met with residents and senior citizens to hear their opinions on the walking environment and safety concerns. Some residents complained about discomfort caused by aging sidewalk facilities, and the need to inspect related civil complaints was raised on-site.
During his next visit to Sammi Market, Lim exchanged views with merchants about the local economy and commercial district issues. The merchants shared their difficulties due to economic stagnation and declining consumer spending, while Lim focused on ways to revive livelihoods and boost the regional economy.
Currently, Lim is the sole registered candidate for the Siheung mayoral election and his unopposed victory is confirmed. According to the Public Official Election Act, when the number of candidates does not exceed the number of available positions, an election is not held and the candidate is automatically declared elected on election day.
As an unopposed candidate, Lim is currently restricted from standard campaign activities such as distributing business cards or wearing campaign clothing displaying his name, in accordance with the Public Official Election Act.
Local political circles view Lim as focusing on field activities to strengthen organizational unity and support the local elections.
