The event was organized to allow participants to experience the history and reality of national division firsthand, and to foster the values of peaceful coexistence and the spirit of peaceful reunification among the next generation.
On this day, participants visited Imjingak Pyeonghwa-nuri Park, the 3rd Tunnel, and Dora Observatory, where they reflected on the historical significance of the division of the Korean Peninsula and considered together the importance of peaceful coexistence on the peninsula.
Additionally, the "1 Million Citizens Peaceful Reunification Interview" campaign was held at the event site.
Students, teachers, and council members shared diverse opinions on peaceful reunification and peaceful coexistence, contributing to the formation of a national consensus and the spread of a culture of peace.
A student from Gyeongbuk Science High School shared, "Walking through the narrow and dark 3rd Tunnel in person made me realize the horrors of war and the fact that the division is not yet over."
Son Soonok, Acting Chairperson of the Sangju City Council, stated, "I hope that through on-site experiences, young people will come to appreciate the value of peace and be inspired to envision a future of coexistence. We will continue to promote various activities to spread awareness of peaceful reunification."
Meanwhile, the Sangju City Council of the National Unification Advisory Council leads efforts to foster youth awareness of peace and consensus on reunification by hosting annual DMZ field experience programs, expert lectures, and talk-type unification education for students.
