This agreement was promoted in response to the increasing demand for multipurpose unmanned systems, particularly among European and NATO member countries, and to address the next-generation UGV project.
Hanwha Aerospace operates wheeled UGV platforms such as the independently developed Arion-SMET and Grunt. Milrem Robotics' tracked UGV platform, THeMIS, is recognized in the global market for its excellent off-road mobility in real-world conditions, hybrid propulsion system, and capability to integrate a wide range of mission equipment.
The two companies are also jointly developing a tracked UGV platform that is larger than their current offerings. In addition, prior to this cooperation agreement, Hanwha Aerospace successfully completed a demonstration of manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) combat systems using Grunt and THeMIS in Romania.
Hanwha Aerospace plans to use this collaboration as a starting point to establish a local production and supply system for next-generation unmanned solutions in Romania and to expand its unmanned systems business into the broader European market.
Kuldar Varsi, CEO of Milrem Robotics, said, "THeMIS is one of the first UGVs to enter mass production in Europe. We will contribute to expanding production capacity in Romania with Hanwha Aerospace and to revitalizing the regional defense industry ecosystem."
