39 Candidates Enter the Race for 14 National Assembly By-Election Seats
On the first day of candidate registration for the June 3 local elections and National Assembly by-elections, 6,902 people completed their applications.
According to the National Election Commission on May 15, the average competition rate for these local and by-elections stood at 1.6 to 1 as of May 14, the first day of candidate registration. Out of 4,241 positions to be filled in this election, 6,854 candidates completed the registration process, which means they submitted all required documents. The final competition rate will be determined after the second day of candidate registration is completed.
For the 16 metropolitan mayor and governor seats, 49 candidates have registered so far. For the 227 basic local government head positions (mayors and county governors), 519 people have registered. In the superintendent of education elections, where 16 will be elected, 47 people (a competition rate of 2.9 to 1) have registered.
For the 804 metropolitan council district seats, 1,506 people applied (with 1,496 having completed registration), and for the 2,650 basic council district seats, 4,004 people applied (with 3,971 having completed registration). In the proportional representation elections, 224 candidates submitted registration documents for the 129 metropolitan council seats, and 514 candidates submitted documents for the 385 basic council seats.

Meanwhile, for the National Assembly by-elections to elect 14 members of parliament, 39 candidates (a competition rate of 2.8 to 1) have entered the race.
