"Explain Farmland Act and Drunk Driving Controversies"... Democratic Party Criticizes Progressive Party Candidate Lee Seokha
Jeonnam Provincial Party and Yeonggwang Regional Committee:
"To Be Judged by Principles and Achievements"
The Democratic Party of Korea Jeonnam Provincial Party strongly criticized the Progressive Party and candidate Lee Seokha in connection with the Yeonggwang County mayoral election in Jeonnam, stating that they are "creating confusion in the election through smear campaigns and slanderous politics."
On the 14th, the spokespersons of the Democratic Party of Korea Jeonnam Provincial Party released a statement, saying, "The phrase 'silent on personal suspicions (violations of the Farmland Act and drunk driving), obsessed with slandering the opponent' perfectly describes the current behavior of the Progressive Party and candidate Lee Seokha." They continued, "While raising issues about the morality and qualifications of opposing candidates, they have failed to provide responsible explanations regarding their own controversies over violations of the Farmland Act and past drunk driving offenses."
The statement continued, "Candidate Lee has promoted himself as a representative of farmers, highlighting his experience as the secretary general of the farmers' association and as a village chief." They criticized, "However, the recent circumstances suggesting violations of the Farmland Act and the possibility of administrative sanctions undermine the very justification and identity he has claimed."
The statement further asserted, "Farmland is not just an asset but the foundation of agriculture and the very livelihood of farmers. The fact that a candidate presenting himself as a representative of farmers is at the center of a controversy over violating the Farmland Act has caused great shock and disappointment among county residents."
The Democratic Party of Korea also raised concerns about candidate Lee's criminal record.
The spokespersons of the Democratic Party of Korea Jeonnam Provincial Party pointed out, "Candidate Lee has a criminal record, including two counts of drunk driving," and emphasized, "Drunk driving is not a simple mistake; it is a serious crime that threatens the lives and safety of citizens."
They further stressed, "Repeated drunk driving on two occasions reflects a complacent attitude toward legal order and social responsibility. Anyone running for an office responsible for county administration must demonstrate the highest sense of law-abidingness and responsibility."
The spokespersons also criticized the Progressive Party, saying, "They are engaging in a classic form of 'double-standard politics,' exaggerating the faults of their opponents while turning a blind eye to their own problems. An election dominated by smear campaigns and agitation, rather than policy and vision, will never earn the trust of the county residents."
They called for the immediate cessation of smear campaigns and slanderous politics, as well as transparent explanations regarding controversies over violations of the Farmland Act and criminal records.

In conclusion, they stated, "An election is not a process of lies and slander, but a process in which policies and vision should be evaluated based on the lives of county residents and the future of the region. The Democratic Party of Korea, the Yeonggwang Regional Committee, and candidate Jang Seil will remain focused solely on the residents, striving to be evaluated based on principles, competence, and achievements."
