According to Pyeongtaek City, there were 9 reported cases of impersonation in the second half of last year and 14 cases through April this year, indicating a steady rise in such fraud crimes. As attention and prevention by small business owners and citizens are crucial, the city announced that it is actively raising awareness through various channels to ensure people are fully aware of the methods used and know how to respond.
In particular, emergency response manuals have been distributed as meeting materials to organizations such as the Small Business Association, merchant associations, and local community groups. Additionally, the city has utilized its website, AlimTalk, and social media channels to further raise awareness.
Furthermore, the city plans to strengthen its crime prevention efforts by displaying warning messages on electronic boards at administrative welfare centers and bus stops, providing informational leaflets at civil service offices, and producing and distributing targeted promotional videos.
A Pyeongtaek City official emphasized, "Government offices never request advance payments or on-site settlements," and urged the public to remember the three-step response manual for handling impersonation fraud if they have any doubts.
