Baby Dies After Birth in Motel; Police Investigate Mother in Her 20s
Booked by Police on Charges of Child Abuse Resulting in Death
The police are investigating a woman in her 20s, identified as Ms. A, on suspicion of causing the death of her baby after giving birth in a motel room.
The Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul announced on May 7 that Ms. A, the baby’s biological mother, had been booked in February on charges of child abuse resulting in death.
After giving birth to the baby in a motel, Ms. A called 119 for help, but when emergency responders arrived at the scene, the baby had already died.
Ms. A claimed that she was unaware of her pregnancy, but during the police investigation, it was revealed that she had visited an obstetrician prior to giving birth.
The police requested an arrest warrant in advance for Ms. A, but the prosecution returned the request, instructing them to supplement the case with expert opinions that could prove intent to kill.
The police are continuing their investigation, including questioning a man who was present at the time.
