Studio Dragon's First-Quarter Operating Profit Jumps 50%... Boosted by Expanded TV Programming
Sales Reach 155.3 Billion Won, Operating Profit at 6.4 Billion Won
Broadcast Episodes Increase to 91
Studio Dragon announced on May 7 that it recorded sales of 155.3 billion won and operating profit of 6.4 billion won in the first quarter of this year. Compared to the previous year, sales increased by 16.0% and operating profit rose by 50.1%.
The number of TV and OTT broadcast episodes reached 91, up by 32 episodes from the same period last year, driving the company's growth. In particular, the number of TV broadcast episodes increased by 60% from 40 to 64. As a result, programming sales rose by 45.5% year-on-year to 48.4 billion won. Overseas sales also grew by 25.5% as the number of original titles released on global OTT platforms increased by 8 compared to the previous year. However, profitability declined compared to the previous quarter due to the absence of large tentpole titles and a reduction in pre-sales of TV programming to global OTT platforms.
