Busking Awakens Gijang Nights... Performances Coming to Everyday Life
Touring Jeonggwan, Ilgwang, and Gijang
12 Street Performances Scheduled from May
Gijang County will operate street performances (busking) that tour major local venues from May to September to expand residents' opportunities to enjoy culture.
This "Street Performance (Busking Zone) Support Project" aims to provide outdoor performance venues and basic audio equipment, offering artists a space for cultural and artistic activities while giving residents the chance to enjoy performances close to their daily lives.
The performances will begin at Jeonggwan Dolphin Fountain Square and travel to other locations such as the Ilgwang Beach event stage and Gijang Saemaeul Children’s Park.
The program will be divided into the first half (May to June) and the second half (August to September), with around 12 sessions taking place on Saturdays. Up to four teams per session will participate, presenting a variety of genres including music, dance, and performance art.
In particular, as these outdoor performances are held close to residential areas, anyone in the community can freely attend, expanding everyday access to culture and bringing added vitality to the region.
Jung Jongbok, the head of Gijang County, said, "Last year’s street performance support project received an enthusiastic response from both performers and audiences, ending successfully. This year, we will prepare an even more enriching stage so that residents can enjoy diverse cultural performances in their neighborhoods, and we will actively support the spread of street performance culture."
