Hanwha Systems Included in Global ESG Index for the First Time: First Korean Defense Company, Ranked No. 1 in Asia-Pacific
Top 20% Among 600 Leading Asia-Pacific Companies
Highest Score in Aerospace and Defense Sector
Maintained ESG Grade A for 5 Consecutive Years and AAA in Global Assessments
Hanwha Systems became the first domestic defense company to be included in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Asia-Pacific Index by S&P Global, an international credit rating agency, securing the top spot in the aerospace and defense sector.
On May 6, Hanwha Systems announced that it had been selected for the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Asia-Pacific Index, which is released annually by S&P Global.
The Dow Jones Best-in-Class Index is an ESG evaluation metric established as part of the restructuring of the previous Dow Jones Sustainability Indices. Each year, S&P Global comprehensively evaluates companies based on their financial performance and ESG management standards to determine index inclusion.
The Dow Jones Best-in-Class Asia-Pacific Index assesses the ESG management levels of the top 600 companies in the Asia-Pacific region, with only the top 20% by industry included. This marks the first time a Korean defense company has been incorporated into the index.
Notably, Hanwha Systems ranked number one in the Asia-Pacific region in the aerospace and defense sector. The company received consistently high marks across key ESG categories, including human rights management, environmental policy and management, occupational health and safety, and supply chain management.
This achievement is seen as evidence that Korean defense companies' ESG competitiveness has reached a global standard. As ESG management establishes itself as a core criterion for investment and exports, it is also expected to have a positive impact on Hanwha Systems' global market expansion.
Hanwha Systems continues to show stable results in major domestic and international ESG evaluations. It has maintained an overall A grade for five consecutive years in the Korea ESG Standards Institute (KCGS) evaluation and received the highest AAA rating in the Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) ESG assessment. Last year, Hanwha Systems also became the first Korean defense company to be included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices Korea.
