Child-Focused Pledges Announced in Celebration of Children's Day
Jeong Wono, the Democratic Party candidate, and Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate, both running in the June 3 Seoul mayoral election, have each unveiled pledges for children in celebration of Children's Day. Jeong announced plans to establish a pediatric healthcare system and support reading education, while Oh proposed expanding Seoul-style kids cafés to reduce the burden of childcare.
On May 5, Jeong stated via social media, "I will create a Seoul where every child can grow up healthy."

He also promised to expand the home-visit health management program for infants and toddlers to all daycare centers and kindergartens, with experts visiting four times a year to assess children's physical health and developmental stages.
To establish a 24-hour pediatric healthcare system, Jeong promised to promptly designate Moonlight Children’s Hospitals in five districts that currently lack both Moonlight Children’s Hospitals and Safe Clinics, ensuring pediatric care is available during holidays and at night. He also pledged to expand Our Children’s Safe Hospitals and pediatric emergency centers in the southwestern region where they are currently lacking.
In the field of education, Jeong said he would actively support the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education’s “Reading, Debate, and Humanities Education 2030 Plan.” He also pledged to create “reading playgrounds” near homes and to place professional “bookmasters” at these facilities.
On the morning of May 5, Oh Se-hoon announced his pledges for children at the Green Green Kids Café, part of the Seoul International Garden Expo. He presented plans to redesign the city from a child’s perspective and to substantially reduce the burden of childcare on parents.

Eight such centers will be newly established across Seoul, including in Gangbuk, Seongbuk, and Gangseo districts.
In addition, Oh announced the “Children’s Art Seed” program to support practical arts education for elementary school students. The program will offer eight months of practical arts instruction—including vocal music, instrumental music, theater, and dance—for students in grades 3 through 6.
The plan is to expand the so-called “cost-effective kids cafés”—the Seoul-style kids cafés—to 404 locations by 2030, doubling the current number.
Both candidates also carried out campaign activities related to children on this day. Jeong visited Children’s Grand Park, Jamsil Sports Complex, and City Hall Plaza.
