Gunfire Erupts Near White House Just Ten Days After Trump Dinner Incident
Secret Service Agents Exchange Gunfire With Armed Suspect
One Minor Bystander Injured and Taken to Hospital
A shooting incident occurred near the White House in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States.
On the 4th (local time), the United States Secret Service (SS) announced on X (formerly Twitter) that at approximately 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time, an exchange of gunfire took place between SS agents and an armed suspect at the intersection of 15th Street and Independence Avenue, located southeast of the Washington Monument and not far from the White House. This incident has caused even greater shock, as it happened less than ten days after the shooting and attempted assassination that occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner attended by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Associated Press reported that the White House was temporarily placed on lockdown while authorities investigated the incident. The SS directed White House press members who were outside to move into the briefing room. Subsequently, President Trump delivered a speech at a small business-related event inside the White House, and the event concluded without interruption.
Matthew Quinn, Deputy Director of the SS, stated during an on-site media briefing, "Our plainclothes agents patrolling outside the White House noticed a suspicious individual who appeared to be armed and requested the support of uniformed officers. During the encounter, the individual briefly fled, then drew a firearm and fired at our agents, who returned fire, leading to a shootout." Deputy Director Quinn added, "The suspect was shot and transported to the hospital," but did not comment on the severity of the injuries.
It was also reported that a minor was struck by a bullet fired by the suspect and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The victim is not believed to be in life-threatening condition.

Deputy Director Quinn explained that before the incident occurred, the motorcade of U.S. Vice President JD Vance had passed by the scene, but there was no indication that the suspect attempted to approach Vice President Vance’s motorcade. He further stated that he would not speculate on whether this incident was targeting President Trump, but emphasized, "We will get to the bottom of the facts." The investigation of this case will be conducted by the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.
