On Nomination of People Power Party’s Kim Kiwoong, Accused of Election Law Violations: “Disregard for the People of Seocheon”
Cho Joong-yeon, a preliminary candidate for Seocheon County Governor from the Reform New Party in the upcoming June 3 local elections, criticized both the Democratic Party and the People Power Party over their disputes regarding judicial risks, labeling both parties' actions as "deceptive politics."
On May 4, Cho issued a statement saying, "Seocheon has been turned into a battleground for the two parties’ criminal accusations," and stressed, "Residents want a future for Seocheon, not more risks."
Cho questioned the stance of the Democratic Party’s Boryeong-Seocheon Regional Committee, which called for the indictment of People Power Party Governor Kim Kiwoong for alleged violations of the Public Official Election Act, asking, "Is this the realization of justice, or just a political show to bring down the opponent?"
He further pointed out, "Before the Democratic Party champions justice against candidates from other parties, it must first explain to the residents the judicial risk posed by Representative Lee Jaemyung, who received a conviction and remand verdict from the Supreme Court for violating the Public Official Election Act at that time."
Cho also pressed Yoo Seung-kwang, the Democratic Party's preliminary candidate for Seocheon County Governor, to "clearly state his position on the Special Prosecutor Act to dismiss indictments."
Addressing the People Power Party, he asserted, "Nominating a candidate who threatens the continuity of administration and lost the residents’ trust due to judicial risk is an act of disregarding the people of Seocheon," and insisted, "The People Power Party must make a sincere public apology to the residents."
