Super-Gap Race Accelerates... KEIT Launches Semiconductor R&D
524 Billion Won Invested in Five Key Projects Including Advanced Packaging and K-Sensor
Enhanced Field-Oriented Support for On-Site Needs
The Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT) is set to launch new research and development (R&D) initiatives in the semiconductor sector.
On April 29, KEIT held an agreement briefing session for new semiconductor R&D projects scheduled for 2026. This session targeted researchers who were selected for major semiconductor projects announced by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in January this year.
The five projects covered are: ▲Development of advanced semiconductor industry technologies ▲Development of leading-edge semiconductor packaging technologies ▲Public-private joint investment in advanced semiconductor talent cultivation ▲Development of Korea-led K-sensor technologies for market leadership ▲Establishment of a growth ladder for system semiconductor companies.
The Ministry and KEIT plan to invest a total of 52.4 billion won this year to focus on fostering the advanced semiconductor industry ecosystem, securing strategic technologies for advanced packaging, developing sensors for key industries, and cultivating industry-ready advanced talent. Their goal is to widen the technological gap of the domestic semiconductor industry.
During the session, KEIT presented full-cycle support measures, including guidance on relevant laws and regulations for research, customized consulting for each company, and R&D legal assistance. In addition, KEIT gathered feedback on challenges faced at research sites and sought solutions, emphasizing on-site, field-oriented communication.
