Gyeonggi Province Conducts Wildfire Disaster Response Drill Using Mobile Messenger
On April 29, Gyeonggi Province conducted a wildfire response simulation training using the mobile messenger KakaoTalk. This marks the first time a disaster response drill has been conducted on a mobile platform.
The province explained that the training was designed to strengthen practical capabilities for rapidly disseminating information and responding immediately to situations, regardless of location.
As of April 2026, Gyeonggi Province has experienced 73 wildfires. This figure exceeds 20% of the nationwide total of 315 wildfires during the same period. Given these wildfire conditions, the province initiated this training to ensure that, in an actual emergency, information can be swiftly shared and inter-departmental cooperation systems can be activated without delay.
In particular, considering Gyeonggi Province's unique characteristics—its limited forest area and the close proximity between forests and urban areas or facilities—the province focused on establishing a real-world response system that can simultaneously secure the golden time for both fire suppression and evacuation in the event of a large-scale wildfire. Through this, the province plans to assess the effectiveness of its newly established resident evacuation management system.

Based on the results of this training, Gyeonggi Province plans to continue developing disaster-type scenarios with a high likelihood of occurrence, such as heavy rain and fire, and to expand its 'mobile cooperation system' so it can be immediately activated in response to various disasters.
