Indie and Small Developers Expand Offline Presence and Build a Sustainable Ecosystem
The Moon Entertainment Co., Ltd. (CEO Moon Sungeok) and the Korea Mobile Game Association (Chairman Hwang Sungik) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote the subculture content business and expand game-based public culture.
This collaboration aims to create an ecosystem that organically connects creators, developers, and users through subculture. In particular, the plan is to enhance the cultural value of games by shifting game content, which has primarily existed online, into offline spaces and transforming it into experiential formats.
The Moon Entertainment is a company that develops a diverse range of cultural businesses centered around the operation of Oil Tank Culture Park in Seoul, including performances, exhibitions, and festivals. Recently, it has expanded into the subculture sector, focusing on building a content platform that integrates games, animation, and cosplay. Leveraging its unique spatial planning capabilities, the company excels at providing immersive cultural experiences.
The Korea Mobile Game Association is the largest association of small and indie game developers in Korea, with approximately 1,200 member companies. As a non-profit organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, it leads the sustainable growth of Korea’s game industry through field-oriented support projects and network building, and is at the forefront of protecting the rights and interests of small developers.
Under the agreement, the two organizations plan to jointly pursue exhibition and event planning utilizing Oil Tank Culture Park. They will expand complex exhibitions featuring indie games, AI-based content, and IP convergence models. In particular, they aim to provide opportunities for small and medium-sized game companies to meet the public in offline settings, thereby establishing a sustainable creative environment based on subculture.
A representative from The Moon Entertainment stated, "Oil Tank Culture Park is a unique venue that reinterprets industrial heritage as a cultural space. When combined with subculture content, it can create new cultural value. Through collaboration with the Korea Mobile Game Association, we will build a sustainable subculture ecosystem where creators and fans grow together."
Hwang Sungik, Chairman of the Korea Mobile Game Association, said, "The integration with subculture presents new opportunities for indie and small developers to secure global competitiveness. Through this agreement, we will lay the foundation for our member companies to interact directly with users offline and to practically verify the potential for expanding their content."
