Yoo Jung-bok, the Incheon Mayor from the People Power Party, officially announced his candidacy for the Incheon mayoral election in the June 3 nationwide local elections on April 29.
On the morning of the 29th, after registering as a preliminary candidate, Mayor Yoo declared his candidacy at the plaza in front of Incheon City Hall, stating, "Based on Incheon's achievements over the past four years, including the highest economic growth rate and fastest population growth rate in Korea, I have decided to run to complete the vision of 'a world-leading city where citizens are happy.'"
He emphasized, "Yoo Jung-bok, who has been verified by citizens, recognized by Korea, and evaluated by the world for his 'unparalleled competitiveness,' will once again devote himself entirely to working for the citizens."
Mayor Yoo stated, "While everyone was worried that economic growth had stalled, Incheon achieved the highest average economic growth rate over three years. While everyone was concerned about population decline, Incheon recorded the highest birth rate increase and population growth rate, becoming the only major city in Korea with a growing population. When Incheon leads the way, it sets a new standard, and when Incheon imagines, it becomes new policy."

He also pledged to foster Songdo's K-Bio Lab Hub as a future industrial base where bio, semiconductors, and advanced research sectors grow together.
Mayor Yoo promised to pursue the 'Incheon International Free City' initiative, saying, "Through a special law, Incheon will be freed from metropolitan regulations and the area surrounding Incheon Airport will be developed into a global airport economic zone leading Korea's future growth." He stressed, "With administrative integration causing uproar nationwide and metropolitan city status likely to become obsolete, now is the right time to pursue an international free city that strengthens Incheon's unique global competitiveness."
Mayor Yoo also stated, "With the 'i Plus 100 Million Dream' policy, I will take lifelong responsibility for citizens' lives and achieve a balanced Incheon that develops both the old and new downtowns. In particular, I promise to realize 'ALL ways Incheon' through a transportation revolution that connects every corner of the city, and to make Incheon the center of future industries and K-culture."
He added, "This election is about choosing between a 'spokesperson for the citizens of Incheon' and a 'representative of the central government.' As someone who has protected Incheon, I will elevate Incheon to the world stage."
