Planned Murder While Spying with Robot Vacuum... Man in His 40s Who Stabbed Ex-Partner Sentenced to Heavy Prison Term Again on Appeal
Also Assaulted and Threatened Victim's Daughter
A man in his 40s who attempted to murder a woman with whom he was in a common-law relationship has been sentenced to a heavy prison term again in his appeal trial.
According to Yonhap News on April 29, the Gwangju High Court Criminal Division 2 (Presiding Judge Hwang Jinhee) dismissed the appeal of Mr. A, who was indicted and detained on charges including attempted murder, aggravated bodily injury and detention, aggravated coercion, and aggravated housebreaking. The court upheld the original sentence of 12 years in prison.
Mr. A was put on trial for attempting to kill Ms. B, his common-law spouse in her 50s, by stabbing her with a weapon at a house in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, at around 2:00 p.m. on June 26 of last year. It was found that even after their separation, Mr. A remained obsessed with Ms. B and committed these crimes despite having received a restraining order from the court.
In particular, Mr. A prepared for the crime by monitoring the interior of the house using the camera of a robot vacuum cleaner. On the day of the incident, he broke into Ms. B's home, assaulted and threatened her teenage daughter, and forced her to send a text message to Ms. B to make her return home early.
