Since taking office as mayor of Uijeongbu, candidate Kim Donggeun has reviewed the direction of the project for about five months through public-private working group consultations and community forums. Based on this, he has decided to officially push forward with the modernization project for the public sewage treatment facility. Accordingly, the existing facility will be relocated underground, and the ground level will be open to citizens.
In particular, there are plans to significantly enhance the cultural infrastructure in the Jangam-dong area by gradually creating an outdoor plaza, a citizen art experience space, and other amenities centered around a concert hall with approximately 1,000 seats. Through these efforts, the aim is to establish the "Jangam-dong Cultural Hub," where performances, exhibitions, and hands-on experiences become a part of everyday life.
Additionally, the space is planned to be developed as a Uijeongbu-style complex landmark where the environment and culture coexist by organically linking eco-friendly energy production facilities with river and green corridors. The intention is to operate citizen festivals and environmental education programs together to expand the area into a central hub for the local community.
