"Gyeonggi-do Exchange Garden" to Open in Seoul Forest Area on May 1
Gyeonggi-do will showcase the essence of its garden culture, accumulated over 16 years, in Seoul.
On April 28, Gyeonggi-do announced that it will establish and unveil the "Gyeonggi-do Exchange Garden" as part of a collaborative initiative with the Seoul Metropolitan Government at the "2026 Seoul International Garden Expo," which opens on May 1.
The Exchange Garden was created in accordance with the "Friendly Exchange Garden Creation Agreement" signed between Gyeonggi-do and Seoul in January. At that time, the two regions agreed to establish each other's gardens within their respective garden expos. The aim is to break down administrative boundaries and provide richer garden culture content to all citizens of the Seoul metropolitan area.
The main piece of the Gyeonggi-do Exchange Garden in Seoul Forest is titled "30.5m Horizon." This work combines the significant history of Gyeonggi-do's 16-year-long garden expos with the unique spatial symbolism of Seoul Forest, which spans approximately 478,500 square meters, and is embodied as a massive 30.5-meter-long linear installation. Artists Song Jaean and Kim Geonwoo contributed to the creation, adding artistic depth, while the Gyeonggi Environment and Energy Agency meticulously managed all aspects of the project to maximize its quality.
The Exchange Garden will welcome visitors for about 180 days, from the opening day of the expo on May 1 through October 27. During this period, anyone visiting Seoul Forest can freely stroll through and experience the high-quality garden culture crafted by Gyeonggi-do. The Seoul Metropolitan Government is also planning to create the "Seoul Exchange Garden" at the site of the 14th Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo, which will be held in October at Semiwon and Dumulmeori in Yangpyeong.
